Harvard College in Asia Program: 2012 Harvard Conference

The theme of the annual, seven-day HCAP 2012 Conference at Harvard University is Technology and Social Justice. The links between technology and social justice are of paramount concern for students across a broad variety of backgrounds, from business to law and economics. At its core, the Harvard College in Asia Program Conferences held at Harvard serves as a platform for students in the top universities of each participating nation to discuss, deliberate and collaborate on a theme of global importance.

Under the umbrella of Technology and Social Justice, organized content programs include panels, workshops, and business trips on the future developments within information technology, nanotechnology, and energy. Critically, the conference will explore the implications of such developments on strategies to alleviate poverty, strengthen civic society, develop social capital, improve education, protect dignity, and effect social change.

Among the 15 hours of scheduled content each day, the HCAP 2012 Harvard Conference will also feature skills training intensives, performances, shows, and immersion into the culture and sights of Harvard and the greater Boston Area. Furthermore, for the first time in its history, the Conference will host a cross-national, collaborative case competition throughout the week. Open to all 130 conference participants, the competition will focus on finding solutions to social challenges including access to quality universal education, clean water, sustainable energy, financial services and sanitary housing.
